Installing RT Report Manager  

  

RT Report Manager is .NET application. The “All in one” setup will install everything necessary for the application to work properly. If some of the required components are missing on your system they will be downloaded and installed.

 

1: Prerequisites

At the beginning you may need to accept one or more EULA (End User License Agreement).  These license agreements are for software and components used by RT Report Manager.

You will see the EULA screen just in case the software was not already installed on your computer. When the EULAs are accepted the setup will install the required components (if any)  Since all these components are widely used, they might be already installed and you may be sent directly to the next step. 

    

2: Installing RT Report Manager Application: 

The setup will show EULA screen for RT Report manager. Please read the license agreement carefully and if you do not accept it do not continue with the installation.

 

Next screen is to choose a place where the application will be installed. You may need to change the default path if you don’t have enough space on your disk. 

 

When you confirm the installation it will be processed. 

3. Connecting to existing SQL Server database

RT Report Manager supports 2 database types: Local database and SQL Server database

-Local database will be installed and configured during the installation. It is useful if you want to start testing the main features of the software immediately. Local database does not have support for multiple users, Document management, advanced features like Version control, Documentation and Search, Tasks, Secondary scheduler for short tasks.

-SQL Server database provides more features and is highly recommended in case you tested the software and you decided to start using it.

1.3Document management allowing to keep copies of the exported files

1.4Documentation and Search features

1.5Version control features

1.6Tasks to import, compress, send files by FTP and SFTP etc.

1.7Secondary scheduler for short tasks

 

If the SQL server database was already installed and you want to connect current instance to it, do the following:

1.Open Settings screen

  

1.Click the button with 3 dots to edit database settings

 

1.Select SQL Server database and click the 3 dost button to select the database you want to use

 

1.RT Report Manager will ask you to restart the application in order to load the new database

 

If this is the first installation of RT Report Manager and you want to use SQL Server database you need to install and configure it.

4. Installing new SQL Server database

 The easiest way to install a new SQL Server database is to open Settings and click “Install New SQ Server Database” button 

   

  

 

          4.1 Installing new SQL Server Express instance and RT Report Manager database

 

1.Select “Install new instance of SQL Server Express” and select the desired version. 2008 R2 and 2012 versions are available.

2.Set User name and password to use when you access this SQL instance

3.If necessary, change the default paths to R-Tag Database and Documents folders. 

4.Click install

 

          4.2 Installing RT Report Manager database on an existing SQL Server

Requirements: SQL Server 2008 R2 or above with enabled FileStream option and case insensitive settings. 

To enable FileStream option please follow the steps in this article:  Enable and configure FILESTREAM

Please make sure that the FileStream option is enabled before to start database installer.

 

 

1.Select “Use existing SQL Server”

2.Type the name of the server of click Refresh and select it

3.Set Log on information.

4.If the SQL Server is on another machine, please check the check box “Database will be installed on a remote server” and create there the database and documents folders manually. If the SQL server is on the same machine where you are running RT Report Manager, the installation will create these folders.

5.If necessary, change the default paths to Database and Documents folders. 

6.Click install

 

 

After the installation is finished RT Report Manager will ask you to restart the software and will connect to the new database.

  

            

5: Registration 

Open settings dialog and click the button “Request Registration Key” 

 

Select desired license type, fill the Company name and click the button “Generate”. Copy the generated key from the field “RequestID” and send it to support@r-tag.com.  You can use also use button “Generate & E-mail”. 

 

When you receive the registration, key click button “Register”. 

Paste the key in the field “Registration Key” and click OK.
